We have organized a County Commissioner's Court Watchdog Group to keep our members informed about Dallas County activities.
WATCHDOG GOALS ARE...
To send regular news reports to our members.
To send out high alert information that may require a "call to action" from you, if and when it is needed.
To have a Citizen Representative at every Court meeting - Tues. 9:00-10:00, 6th Floor Museum downtown.
To be a familiar face and have continuous dialogue with the Commissioners & their staff.
To help provide our feedback and creative ideas about how to balance the budget.
To work with Commissioner Dickey's 2012 Budget Advisory Board.
LATEST NEWS…
Dallas County is $20 million in the red with the 2011 budget and projected tax revenues. Last year our Commissioner's voted to increase our homeowner's taxes in order to pay for their increased spending and overdrawn budget. We plan to be proactive this year in encouraging the Commissioners to cut costs, reduce spending and avoid future tax increases. We are happy to report that Commissioner Dickey, District 1, has invited one of our representatives to sit on her 2012 Budget Advisory Board & we have already begun to review the budget in detail.
One particular area of concern deals with the Dallas County employee pension & retirement plan. Dallas has a defined benefit plan that's extremely lucrative for public employees - a significantly higher level of benefits than the average private sector benefit plan. We will update you on our findings and recommendations along the way. New this year thanks to Commissioner Garcia, all County Commissioner Court meetings are recorded and may be viewed at the following link: http://www.dallascounty.org/department/comcrt/videos.html
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU…
We are seeking citizen volunteers from Garland, Mesquite & Rowlet (District 2) to act as a liasons to Mike Cantrell. Liasons attend Commissioner meetings 2-4x per month, & work with Dallas County citizens in creating & maintaining relations with Mike Cantrell. Time commitment is only 2-5 hrs per month - great way to get involved! Contact Pam Colquitt at 214-808-2215 or email pamcolquitt@sbcglobal.net.
